2015年東京で結成。池貝峻、篠田ミル、大井一彌、山田健人の4人編成。古今東西のベースミュージックを吸収したサウンドデザインと、皮肉なまでに誠実な詩世界を表現する池貝峻のソングライトが折り重なった独特のサウンドは、無機質のようでいて、どこまでも肉体的という強烈なコントラストを内包しており、その幽玄なイメージは”青い炎”とも表される。
映像作家/舞台演出家として活躍する山田健人、数々のアーティストをプロデュースする篠田ミル、ドラマーとして数々の現場で評価を受ける大井一彌と、それぞれのメンバーが独自の活動を活発に行なっている。
2016年、ロンドンの老舗ROUGH TRADEを含む全5箇所での欧州ツアーを経て、デビュー・アルバム『Flesh and Blood』を発表。これまでに、フジロックフェスティバル、サマーソニックなどに出演。海外においてもツアーを行なっており、米NPR、英CRASH Magazineなど数多くの海外メディアに紹介され、Warpaint、Mount Kimbie、alt-J、BADBADNOTGOODなどの来日ツアーをサポートした。
2023年にはそれまでのエレクロニックなサウンドからバンドとしてのアンサンブルの追求した最新アルバム『Love & Cults』をリリース、2024年にはファーストアルバムの楽曲を現在の編成から再構築したEP『Salvaged」をリリースするなど、近年のバンドとしての新章を印象づける活動を行なっており、結成から10周年を迎える2025年の展望が期待される。

Emerging from Tokyo’s underground scene in 2015, yahyel is a four-member collective crafting a soundscape that defies borders. Comprising Shun Ikegai, Miru Shinoda, Kazuya Oi, and Kento Yamada, the band fuses bass music influences from across eras and regions with Ikegai’s raw, ironic lyricism and portraits of life in the Far East.
yahyel’s music occupies a distinctive space—cold and synthetic on the surface, yet beating with something deeply physical underneath. Their aesthetic has often been described as a “blue flame” for its striking contrast and intensity.
Each member brings a distinct creative perspective. Yamada is an acclaimed visual artist and director, Shinoda is an in-demand producer collaborating across genres, and Oi is a drummer renowned within Japan’s music communities. This multidimensionality informs yahyel’s immersive live shows and evolving sonic palette.
Following a 2016 European tour including a performance at London’s ROUGH TRADE, yahyel released their debut album Flesh and Blood, earning attention from global media outlets such as NPR and CRASH Magazine. They’ve since performed at Japan’s biggest festivals (Fuji Rock Festival, Summer Sonic) and supported international acts like Warpaint, Mount Kimbie, alt-J, and BADBADNOTGOOD.
Their 2023 full-length Love & Cults marked a shift toward a more band-driven sound while retaining the digital fragmentation of their early work. In 2024, they released Salvaged, a reimagining of material from their debut—less a nostalgic revisit than a reframing through the lens of a decade’s growth. As they approach their 10th anniversary in 2025, yahyel continues to push toward a sound both unplaceable and unmistakably their own.
